So I am officially getting old. I am turning 50 this year. That also means that many of my childhood and college friends are, too.

I have never been one to make a big deal about birthdays, and most of my friends haven’t made big deals about their birthdays, at least since 21. Fifty seems to be one that is different. Some of us plan to do nothing, and others want to pull out all of the stops. One invited a bunch of us to join a safari and Kilimanjaro climb. Sadly, didn’t work with my schedule. Others are throwing bashes that resemble a large wedding reception. Some want to go to Vegas or Cabo for a weekend.

My college best friend/ roommate planned a trip to Thailand. Surprisingly, 17 of his friends and about 10 of his family members made the trip.
