My coworker’s ring is massive. We both work in news, she’s on-air and I’m the producer. Together, with a camera guy, we typically travel around the state, covering local topics. I write and coordinate, she reads and helps put it all together. The camera guy shoots. We stay in bad hotels, we eat at bad restaurants, and we put a lot of miles on rental cars.
Needless to say, we’ve spent some time getting to know each other. Her husband is never around, also traveling for work, and comes from money (hence the ring) so while she’s away he’s either traveling or on some trip with his family, fly fishing in Idaho.
I’m perpetually single. Too many hours in edit bays and on the road make it hard to make (and maintain) connections.
The one time I met her husband was at a holiday party. The only time we were alone he said, “I like you. You’re a good guy. Don’t let me hear about your sneaking into her hotel room, though.” And then he walked off. He’s not the most intimidating man, I’m actually taller and more in shape than he is, but he’s clearly insecure about his wife’s closeness to a male coworker.
