Tom waved.
“Hi Katie! How’s the sun?” He was weeding his garden. It took late afternoon sun straight into sunset and the sun was just beginning to take over the edge of the loose dark soil.
“Hot. I gotta sweat this off if I can’t walk it off.” Truth was she didn’t care. She felt good. And watching him work was a nice addition to her tanning time.
“Yeah, whatever. Where are your hooligans?”
“Their dad’s for the weekend. Should be back tomorrow evening.”
“You want company on your walk later? Then I’ll take you down to Sully’s for dinner?”
She was shocked that a single guy fresh from college might ask that. She was edging on her 44th birthday. But it might be fun. “Sure.”
Tom knocked on her back door around 7:30. He’d most likely hopped the fence again. Her 15 year old son thought it had become something to emulate. Scratched his leg pretty good the first time he’d tried to do the same, but was improving. “You ready K? I’m hungry.”
“You gotta walk first. Two miles. To the park and back.”
