“Shit!” Tom hissed with pain, wagging his fingers as smoke rose from his Pip-Boy. It sometimes needed to be tinkered with, and while he wasn’t an engineer, he understood enough about the device to fix most problems. The screen had been flickering and reading information wrong for the past two days. Two days too many. If it gave him wrong information about Dan, it could prove fatal.
He sucked his burnt finger until the pain subsided. Pip-Boys could be devious little tools, just like everything in the wasteland. Tom worked by lamplight, an old bulb sputtering and crackling. It was amazing it worked at all.
Tom and Alli took refuge in an abandoned asylum for the night. It seemed a bit dramatic to him, but it was the only large building for miles. Once they found the second floor to be clear of any wicked monstrosities, they had decided to stay there the night. Alli had been worried about ghosts. As a scientist, he couldn’t believe she thought suck childish things were real. An abandoned asylum in the wasteland could house many real threats.
