I did a vipassana silent meditation course in Indonesia a while back. Its basically 10 days of intense meditation with very strict rules. Getting up at 4am every morning, not eating any food after 11am, meditating for up to 12 hours a day, no speaking or even making eye contact with anyone, no distractions such as phones, music, reading etc allowed. And… no sexual activity including self pleasure!
Well, I took the course very seriously, I figured that if I was doing it, I wanted to give it my all. I managed to stick to all the rules. Well, nearly all of them…
I was staying in a little hut type thing with one other woman. Super basic, just a small room with two single beds in it (and they didn’t even have proper mattresses, which is apparently also part of the rules. You’re not meant to have too much physical comfort.) And a small shared bathroom off the hut. Of course me and the woman I was sharing with weren’t allowed to talk or interact with each other at all. From what I could see she was a westerner like me, and a little bit older than I am, maybe in her early 30s.
