The four-hour ride to the cabin was actually fun, since they took Don’s SUV and Bill’s big sedan. The fathers rode up front, and there was plenty of room in the back seat for the girls to stretch out and chat, while they watched the scenery.
A hundred miles or so out of town, the way to the cabin took them off the highway, and Don and Bill refueled while everybody took advantage of the facilities, in addition to picking up some snacks. Then, the Beth and Stacey switched cars, so they could catch up with Rebecca and Laurie.
Eventually, the woods became deeper, the road became hillier and more winding, until they turned a corner, and were stunned to see the mountain range in all its glory surrounding them.
An hour later, they drove through a small town with a bunch of small shops and a General Store, then a few miles out of town, Don turned onto a dirt road off the main drag, and they slowly climbed the mountain.
Soon, Don made another turn down the side of the hill, and they came to a log cabin. The lake was plainly visible behind the house.
