As Chrissy entered the banquet hall reserved for her group, it was about half full of people milling around and drinking, making small talk, laughing. It looked like everyone was having a good time.
There were place settings with names on them for assigned seating, and so everyone would be able to see what everyone else’s name was.
Chrissy found her seat, and saw David M was sitting next to her. She couldn’t help but smile a little.
“Hello beautiful”, a familiar voice said softly from behind.
“Hello David” Chrissy replied as she turned.
Chrissy kept control of her face so that her surprise didn’t show.
David was a few inches taller than her husbands six foot. Very broad at the shoulders, obviously worked out. Dressed very sharp in a pink shirt and grey tie. Dazzling smile. Maybe ten years older than her. And black. It had never occurred to Chrissy that he was black. Not that it mattered to her, he was very smart and capable and friendly.
As a coworker he was great.
Chrissy had never been with a black man before. Had never really considered it even. She wasn’t prejudice; she had just never found herself attracted to a black man before.
