It was Roxy’s fault the boys had been expelled, so it was only fair she pay the price.
It had happened in English class. Everyone had been asked to write an essay on the meaning of “love”, and of course Roxy, 18 years old, top of the class, little miss prim and proper and perfect, had been asked to read hers in front of the class.
“Love means saving myself,” she had begun haughtily, back ramrod-stiff, perfect hair in her perfect ponytail. “Love means that my first time will not be thrown away casually, but cherished, and reflect my worth. Love means that I will wait for a man who sees my true beauty, not lure him in with exposed skin and silicone udders like some plastic cow.”
Up the back of the class, one of the boys – none of them would admit which, even later – made a loud “mooo”.
