I knock on the door and it’s not more than a few moments before it opens. She smiles and steps back to let me in. Her usually pale skin is flushed pink, there’s a faint sheen of sweat, and her blonde hair’s up in a bun. That, combined with the grey tanktop and black gym shorts, makes me think that she’s either in the middle of a workout or house cleaning.
“How’s your day going?” she asks as she closes the door behind me.
“Fine, nothing too exciting,” I reply. I’m not really looking forward to what’s coming next.
“Sooo…” she starts, “what did you think?”
I glance down at the Bible in my hand. It has a rainbow of color coded bookmarks and pencillings, all denoting special and much beloved passages. I hold it out to her.
“I don’t really think this is for me, Hannah.”
She smiles as she takes the book, but the disappointment in her eyes is plain as day. “Well, I’m glad that you gave it a chance at least,” she says.
