Around the end of the 2000’s I was leaving University and looking to get my first ‘normal’ 9-5 job. I had worked since 16 through various part time jobs to get some money to spend on me while in full time education. Now though I was ready to put all that education to good use and start a proper job. Or so I thought. Turns out doing a degree that is made up of lots of smaller subject matters instead of one main one is pretty shit for getting a job in a field that has hundreds of applicants with a full degree specializing in one thing want. Rejection after rejection I was applying for anything.
After a good few months of job hunting and getting nowhere I got a call from a recruitment agency who I had sent my CV too, instead of calling me about the job I had applied for, they wanted to talk to me about working for them. Recruitment is a pretty grim field, very sales driven, all people care about is numbers, and having left that area of work 12 or so months after I’ve not looked back, but at the time I was wide eyed, eager and excited to start.
