My name is Gwen. For the last two and a half years, I’ve spent my days working at Baewulf, a privately owned and funded research facility in Antarctica. I work as maintenance, doing mostly simple things like replacing lights, basic plumbing, things like that. All of the more serious stuff was taken care of by my supervisor, Jason.
Although the facility is quite large, it’s staffed primarily by only a few dozen people. It’s a rather remote location, so we all live on site. The work conditions can be harsh, as expected, but the pay is phenomenal. The food and living expenses are all taken care of, so the idea is to work here for a couple of years or so, and take your bounty back home and live comfortably off of it for as long as you like. Or get another job when you get home, and have something you can fall back on. At least, that WAS the plan.
