College is a wonderful time for exploration and to push the limits of what you thought possible. I was recently reminded of a particular time due to reminiscing over the holidays and thought I’d share.
It was my freshman year of college, spring semester in fact. I had just pledged a fraternity (I can hear the groans from Reddit already) and was becoming more comfortable in the college setting. There was a rough transition originally and I think that is what honestly led me to the fraternity. I went from being a shark in a pond of guppies in high school to a proverbial fish out of water on campus.
As with most Greek organizations, there’s a lot of comingling and everyone knows, or knows of, everyone. I was the rare exception. I was given a bid to join at the eleventh hour and only by one organization. They were going out on a limb due to a strong recommendation from another brother (who I count as one of my best friends to this day).
I graciously accepted and our small community was a little abuzz about me, for a short period. Clean cut, all American type guy. Worked out religiously (wish I still did), on the baseball and football teams, fairly smart, not terrible looking.
