I’ve been struggling to describe this incident in a coherent way, so here’s my first attempt, I’m still trying to decide what’s relevant and what’s not.
Early on in my career I was working for a small firm that had a particular piece of equipment that was causing issues. It was a very niche item. It was old and had been modified extensively in its career, and whatever condition it had been when it was initially manufactured it wasn’t in that state now.
For a period of several months this piece of equipment had been causing ever escalating problems, and the company hierarchy was spending more and more time, in either getting a maintenance schedule put in place for it or finding a replacement. This had mixed results.
I’d been at the company for a while, I actually had another job lined up for the medium to long term but I needed to build experiences in certain areas, and the company wasn’t being as accommodating as I hoped.
