Luke slid the key gently into the lock, then waited until the light blinked green and he heard it click. He pushed through, wheeling two suitcases in behind him.
“Oh this isn’t too bad,” his girlfriend said, hanging up her jacket. “Everything looks clean at least.” She gestured loosely to the space, a basic hotel room with a mattress, desk and office chair. Television and fridge too, but they wouldn’t be needing those.
“Yeah, Stacie, it’s a beautiful suite,” Luke said, sarcastic yet playful.
“Well,” she said coyly, approaching him to plant a gentle kiss on his lips. “It isn’t what you’ll be focused on, is it?”
He smiled, swallowing hard. Luke had asked to go to Las Vegas for his 25th birthday. With each of them out of college for a few years, they could finally afford to travel, so they had been experimenting over the last year. D.C., New York; but they hadn’t done Vegas yet. And Luke had asked to go with a specific purpose.
“So where do you think he’s going to take me?” Stacie asked, moving to sit on the bed. Luke could tell she was nervous. Excited, but nervous.
