It’s the last weekend of Mardi Gras as I write this, so I feel an obligation to tell the story of my Mardi Gras adventure last year. It does seem mandatory, after all.
I had always wanted to experience Mardi Gras; it was a bucket list item that I had never gotten around to. So last year I told Kimber, my wife, that I wanted to go and she gave me her blessing. But not being into it herself, she said she would book my airfare and hotel for me and that I should have fun. That’s part of what makes our open marriage work so well. She gives me the freedom to do what I want and I don’t give her grief about staying home and not partaking.
As the New Orleans trip was coming together I mentioned it to my friend Marina, who had never been herself, but who was always up for an adventure. Marina is tall, attractive, confident, and assertive. She proposed coming along, and I said sure, it sounded like fun.
