Chapter 1
I walked through the front door of Boondocks and scanned around the room as I made my way to the bar. Frank sat to my left, a large man with a red face obscured by a full white beard. His eyes were glassy from an evening of drinking. I see him here often. He’s a nice guy, but he’s not the type I would spend my time with.
To my right was a cute redhead that was continuously checking her phone. She doesn’t look up at me as I walk by, obviously distracted by something. I’ll keep my eye on her and see if anything happens.
Just beyond the redhead is a couple sitting on the same side of the bench of a booth on the far side of the bar. They look to be in their mid 20’s. His arm wrapped around the brunette’s shoulders, and she smiled as he nibbled at her earlobe.
There were maybe 20 people or so sitting at the various tables in front of the stage as a homely woman sang a shitty, off-key rendition of Concrete Blonde’s Joey. God, I hate that song, and having a voice of a toad does not help. I honestly don’t know why I keep coming here for karaoke night. Nix that, I know exactly why I come here. I like being the center of attention.
