When you say “(obviously not her real name)” it just takes away from the story, even if it’s just a little bit. Just use a fake name; you don’t have to tell us it’s a fake name. Also, for god sakes please stop using initials in place of first names.

So E said to R that L was being really bitchy and that D wouldn’t do anything about it.

That shit is fucking impossible to follow, just pick a fake name.

  1. As soon as I realized her name wasn’t Gertrude, I just deflated.

  2. I disagree, write however you want, it’s your story after all.
    **Bigger Issues**:

    * Tagging your stories
    * Calling stories fake and starting drama for no reason when you can talk to a mod

  3. Agree strongly but with a caveat. The initial thing is a tradition from way, way back, for example it appears often in The Pearl.

I’ve never liked it, but I respect its use so long as the cast is small, the action isn’t so involved that the initials are in constant use, and the author realizes what they’re doing.

I’ll add also that when I see “let’s call her Kate” I immediately and forever assume that Kate is in fact her real name.

  4. Oh God, thank you! I hate initials, I end up not reading the story.

  5. Also, finish your stories. Don’t end it with “To be continued,” or “I’ll finish this up later,” or whatever. You’re not writing Game of Thrones, you don’t need to build up suspense week to week.

  6. Agreed. If you are taking the time to write the story, fake names make it soooo much hotter than initials or “guy 1 and guy 2”.

  7. And that’s one to grow on.

    ..

    .

And by “one to grow on” I mean a boner.

  8. or just use the real names….. who cares. Is Amy or Brad reading gonewildstories?

But yes initials kill it for me

  9. Yet no one tags, im dowvoted into oblivion for having legit comments also another mod said mods would handle it, but I’m just an internet random who cares
