Normal dating security can apply- meet them first in public, hang out, see if you feel better about the situation. Getting invited to a couple is more rare as a man, but don’t let scarcity feelings put you in a place you don’t feel safe.
Otoh, do you normally find yourself overreacting or catastrophizing normal situations? Then maybe you do need to push yourself a bit.
