The Gift – Part 1

Jesse Kafir was on top of the world. In fact, he could never think of a time when he had really been on the bottom. He smiled at himself as he checked himself out in the mirror. The personal training he had been taking had paid off. At 45, he may have looked as good as ever. He towered over most people at 6’4″. In his youth, as a professional baseball pitcher, he had been skinny, but now he his trainer had help him fill out. He traced the lines of his 6 pack, feeling pride.

He stood in his closet, looking through his suits for the right look for the business deal he was set to close on that day. The man he was supposed to meet was probably one of the most interesting men he had ever met. He did not hurt that the man was closing on a huge loan with his bank. His Christmas bonus would be huge this year. So big, that he could finally ask a very special girl a very special question.

He cruised down the strip in his Mercedes, sunroof down, enjoying this unusually warm day in the winter. He stepped out of the car, tossed the valet the keys, and entered the 5 star hotel where he was meeting for his deal. He saw Dexter sitting in a booth, looking dignified. He still could not figure out this man. His accent was not of America, but not of anyplace he had ever heard. Dexter carried himself with complete grace, like a member of royalty. You could tell he was highly educated, came of class, and just the kind of person you felt you have always known.

Dexter saw him approach, greeted him with a smile, and casually waved him over. He had taken the liberty of having a glass of red wine ready for him. Jesse noted the touch. Dexter stood up and shook Jesse’s hands, both men with a firm handshake. Jesse could not help but wonder Dexter’s age, as his face seemed ageless and ancient at the same time. The thought left his mind as Dexter said hello.Dexter, in a low rich voice, stated “Jesse, great to see you. I am very pleased with everything you did for us on this deal. I have reviewed everything, the lawyers have reviewed everything, all of us are happy and ready to sign. I ordered a bottle of Masseta Toscano 1995 to celebrate. Please join me for a drink” They tipped their glasses to each other, “Salute” in unison

.Jesse took the glass and inhaled the aroma of the purplish wine. He slowly brought it to his lips, savoring the taste as it caressed his tongue. This man always knew his wine. Jesse said, “This wine is excellent as always. Thank you, it was my pleasure to help you on the deal. I learned so much and it connected to me a sport I love. The whole deal almost feels like it was a dream, a gift.”

Dexter set down his wine. “We had hoped to find someone who understood baseball to help. It is not everyday that we buy a forest of maple wood for a baseball bat startup. Lets call us finding each other fortuitous. Your bank needed to close a loan. We needed money and expertise, and you had both. The forest is beautiful. The wood is primed and exactly what we need for this stage of the project. We could not be more pleased.”

Jesse, beaming, “Was my pleasure, though I still find it odd that anyone would want to compete with Louisville Slugger as they seem to have a lock on a limited market.”

“Yes, we know, we are targeting a more youthful market. Kids, who still believe in the magic of the forest. Though we do expect to target the professional markets after we perfect our development. We believe we have a distinct advantage in our labor costs and machining skills. And if we fail, well we own a prime forest in the Pennsylvania/New York border. So either way we win in our eyes.”

“This deal brought up so many memories. Ones that had just been sitting there.” Jesse continued, “I really had forgot about the effort and care that went into the bats. I remember the thrill I got as a pitcher when I got a bat to break on a fastball. The exhilaration of the one on one matchup against another man. Just me, on top of the mound, him at the plate, who would win. I don’t think most people ever realize the mentality needed to pitch. I am up there alone, having to throw this small ball against another man, who just wants to smash what I am throwing at him.”

Jesse took another sip of wine. Dexter just stared at him, making him comfortable. Jesse continued, “I remember the soothing feeling of boning the bats in the bullpen to pass the time. Baseball has a lot of empty moments in it. All players are looking for things to fill the time. Boning was one of them.”

Dexter interjected, “What is boning?”

Jesse, breaking his concentration slightly, “Well baseball players are very superstitious. Quite a few of them would take a hardened bone and rub it up and down the wood of the bat. The belief is that it makes the wood harder, which gives the batter more confidence, and baseball is all about confidence. Though I was a pitcher, and never hit, I would still practice hitting in case I made it to the pros and had to it. While I sat in the bullpen waiting to pitch, I would bone the bat, it felt right. Watching some of the great hitters do it, well it was kind of fascinating, it was as if there bat became an extension of their body. The way they could handle it, just kind of majestic. Then my job was to make them look silly.”

Dexter, “Did any other memories pop up?”

Jesse thought back, ” Yeah, the women.  All the women I had. The ones who were with me because I played a sport. The ones that were with me because I looked good. The ones who ditched me after I was hurt. Then as I transitioned to this job, the ones that were with me because I had money. What I realized, I never had one with me for me. I’m hoping that changes soon.”

Dexter asked, “Do you have one in mind.” Jesse nodded.

Dexter smiled, he raised his hand to an assistant. The assistant came over with a stack of papers. Dexter with the same silky smile, “You will find all the papers signed and notarized, just text me when the accounts are settled. I have to leave now, other things to set in motion. It has been my pleasure working with you.” Dexter stood up and extended his hand, Jesse noticed the expensive cufflinks poking out of his tailored sportscoat and the exquisite textile of the tailored shirt. Was that mistletoe on the cufflinks?

Jesse stood up as well. “Wait, I have one more question.  Where are you from? I have been trying to guess, and have not been able to figure it out.”

Dexter paused, “I was born in Rome. My father was in international business and this has taken me all over the world. So I am from nowhere and everywhere at the same time.” Dexter’s smirk hinted much more, but Jesse knew he would not get more from this man.

Jesse, realizing that this time was up, stated “Thank you, everything was my pleasure. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.”

Dexter nodded. Looked at his assistant and walked away.  Jesse finished his wine and started counted the money he was making from this deal. Now that it was complete, he could commit to the gift he wanted. He could hear the light Christmas music in the background, and rehearsed for the question he was going to ask. The original plan was tonight, but he did not want to wait. Now was the time.

As he walked to the valet, all he could do was think of Alita. She was perfect for what he wanted. She was smart, beautiful, of the world yet still chaste. An untamed mare but not because she couldn’t be tamed, just had not found the one who she would let tame her. He knew he was the one. Their time together was great and purer than any other time he had been with a woman. She really did not care for the things of this world so he knew she wasn’t after his money. He knew she was a beautiful mother and would be a great stepmother to his daughter. But it was time to have a son and she was the one to do it. He momentarily got angry that other, lesser men had sons. He would see them in the neighborhood and look at them with jealously and disdain. He deserved the son, he had the better genes, he could raise one to be special. With this bonus money he could guarantee the birth of a son.

As soon as he got into the car he called Alita and asked to see her right then. He was fortunate, as usual, and was free. He drove over, on a cloud, blaring the radio, ready to make the day even better.  When he got there, her easy smile warmed his heart and made him feel as if he could move mountains. “I am too excited to wait until tonight. I know the timing probably isn’t right, but I could not keep this in. I closed that big deal today. And with that bonus, I have two questions to ask you. I do not want you to answer now, but tonight when we see each other again. I want you to marry me, and I want you to have my son. When I mean have my son, I do not mean as maybe we have one, but selecting the sperm, fertilizing the eggs, all through a specialist. It really does need to be you.”

Alita blushed, “I had expected the proposal, but not the son part. It is a very important question and I will let you know tonight.” She walked over as if it was a waltz and gave Jesse a hug and a kiss.  He grabbed her ass, looked her in the eye, winked, and said, “I will see you at 8.”

Alita closed the door, spun around, and leaned against it.  She had pictured a life with him, and while not perfect, it could be good. But to control an outcome like that, it was not in her nature. That is a universe decision. She was not sure she could make it.  She ran upstairs and laid on the bed. Her hands drifted down to the floor and swayed a little bit to and fro as she thought. Her hand bumped up against a cardboard box she had forgot about. She grabbed it, pulled it out, and looked at it. Butterflies took over her stomach and spread across her body. She knew what she needed to do

Jesse came out of his closet, looked into the mirror, and smiled. He looked good, he felt good, and he knew he was going to get the answer he wanted tonight. He had already setup the appointment with the specialist and paid the non-refundable deposit. A limo company texted him that the vehicle was outside. He grabbed the flowers, ring box, and bottle of wine for tonight and headed to the car.  He smiled the whole way to Alita’s, a man about to have everything he wanted and needed.

Alita looked gorgeous as she opened up the door. He whistled slightly and she blushed. He grabbed her overnight bag for the suite he had rented. They headed off to the fine dining restaurant about ten miles away. He had already opened a bottle of champagned and poured glasses before picking her up. He grabbed one and handed it to her. It was a recommended brand from Dexter and it was divine. He could see Alita’s hands shaking some, he reached out and steadied her hand. Jesse, in a calm voice, “Don’t be nervous. Everything is going to be great. It is all going to fit perfectly.” Alita giggled and drank some of her champagne. Three glasses of champagne and a fantastic dinner later, the two walked hand in hand back to the limo.

Jesse stopped, looked at her deep in the eye, and asked her “Have you thought about my questions from earlier…do you have an answer?”

Alita batted her eyes, and said, “Yes..yes I have an answer. But I have a condition.”  She grabbed his hand and got into the limo.  “Let’s wait until in the room. I know it will be a bit difficult to wait, but once I ask, I don’t want the conversation to stop.” Jesse, not imagining a condition that would be unbearable, nodded confidently.

The suite was lavish. It overlooked the ocean. The lights up and down the coast were perfect. Alita turned around. Jesse sucked in his breath. She was gorgeous, fragile, strong, and feminine.

She brushed her hair out of her face. She started, her voice cracking ever so slightly. “Jesse, you are a wonderful man. Any girl would be lucky to have you. I have thought about us being together often. I did not think of having a child. Having a child will end many of the things I wanted to do. I cannot travel the way I want, explore the things I want, live out the fantasies I want, and be the mother I want to be again. So, I need to trust you implicitly. If you say yes to my condition, I will submit to you. You will be in charge until the day I die. So here is my condition. I want to be dominant to you one time, tonight. I want to fuck you in the ass.”
