  2. Providing it was clinically carried out, I think what you did was admirable and a true show of compassion. The addition of flirting and provocation is maybe where I personally woukd draw the line on acceptability given the chance for emotional involvement and psychological stress for the patients.

    All in all though, I think if I was working and found another nurse giving a bed ridden patient a handjob out of compassion, I would turn a blind eye to it. If they were having more than that or actual sex, I would have to have an excess of compassion for the individual patient to be able to justify it.

    A handjob can be a fairly detatched and justified as massage/relief affair, and in that clinical setting, is easy for a patient to maintain mentally as just that and limit chances of emotional involvment. However the real issue is if it is a nom terminal patient and then degrades peoples opinions of the professional nature of nurses in general when it becomes an applied norm of service.     Imagine the potential fallout of that where nurses are then not shown the courtesy and respect their profession deserves. Hopefully this, in which would disassociate the service from nursing staff and limit the potential fallout and sway in opinion towards their profession.
