Sweet 'n' Deadly ‪#‎BURLESQUE‬ on The Dr. Susan Block Show with Deanna Deadly & Sasha Sweet – Supporting Free The Nipple in Solidarity with Iceland & The Bonobo Way Listen Free: http://bloggamy.com/sweet-burlesque (click to see uncensored freed nips) Broadcast LiVE from the Villa Bonobo in Bonoboville.com at The Dr. Susan Block Institute

By Dr. Susan Block

A splash of classic burlesque, a lick of Icelandic #FreetheNipple-inspired Bonoboville Communion, Bonobo Spring politics, Sperm Wars, old friends and new discoveries get stirred and shaken into a tasty concoction that makes this show go down nice and easy like a shot of Agwa or Dirty Tequila…

Burlesque is the theatricalization of “striptease”— the soon-to-be-released Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of Sex includes my entry on the subject. This the most ancient art of teasingly stripping off clothes probably originated pretty much when people began wearing clothes. What we call “burlesque,” however, could be said to have kick-started itself in the late 19th century when Parisians of la belle époque started showing off their legs, and even their genitalia, in a new dance called the can-can. In 1905 the Dutch dancer Mata Hari, later shot as a spy during World War I, was a burlesque sensation at the Musée Guimet, in the Roaring Twenties, a nearly naked and often arrested Sally Rand teased her audience—and the police—from behind ostrich feather fans and bubbles, and mid-century, the witty Gypsy Rose Lee showed us that “anything worth doing is worth doing slowly.”

Now burlesque is experiencing a resurgence in popularity (there’s that Spring Resurrection theme again), and my featured guest burlesque performer, fetish model and vegetarian Chicagoan, the deliciously red-devilish Deanna Deadly, is testament to the revival of burlesque among women around the world. Actually, Deanna found us when we accidentally tagged her while we misspelled “Deauxma,” at which point we just had to have Deanna on the show. She gives us a classic tease of a burlesque performance, pulling off opera gloves, stockings, dress, bra and panties in sultry rhythm to the old-time big band music, getting down to pasties and a “merkin”—which I hereby dub a “pussy pasty” (pudendum pasty?). Eat that, Moulin Rouge. Ooh la la! C’est délicieuse!

The pasties come off for Bonoboville Communion as we #FreetheNipple in bonoboësque solidarity with Iceland’s feminist protest and in shameless sexploitation of our own boob-loving lust. It’s great how #FreetheNipple manages to be both a feminist and exhibitionist action, like the old bra-burnings of the 1970s.

Just before Communion, a surprise guest, Sasha Sweet, enters the Womb Room like a vision of the return of “Persephone” to her Earth Mama Demeter at Eleusis, a Bonobo Spring goddess with flowers in her hair. We first met Sasha with our old walking-dead friend, Corpsy back in 2011, but we haven’t seen her since 2012 as she’s been finding her bliss in New Orleans. Though her sweet smile’s the same, her breasts have grown to an impressive D-cup which she offers as an altar for Bonoboville Communion, and that gets the party started. We take calls from our associate producer-in-abstentia (thanks, Hollywood Jake, for filling in!) Dark Phoenix, who wants to know if Deanna is an exhibitionist (she is, but then, what adult performer isn’t?), and one of our new favorite Speakeasy Studio Members, the oral surgeon with a silver tongue, Dr. Mars.

During the show, we pay tribute to some of the great burlesque stars who have been on the show, including the legendary Bettie Page (1996), Tempest Storm (2013), Dita Von Teese (1996, 2002, 2004), Tonya Kay (2010), Sunny Megatron and Ken Melvoin-Berg (not so much burlesque, but Chicago fetish-ocracy and their amazing “fucksaw” stole the show on our 19th Wedding Anniversary) and lovely, rubbery Emily Marilyn (2014).

Speaking of anniversaries, both Sasha Sweet and Deanna Deadly will be joining Capt’n Max and me for our 23rd Wedding Anniversary on April 11th. Don’t miss this sure-to-be-awesome bacchanalian celebration of love, lust and marriage, the Bonobo Way.

  1. Wild n’ TRUE! (I was there!) This is one of the tamer shows I’ve attended. Sometimes it’s all out orgies (with squirting thrown in for good measure)… FACT
