The darkness enveloped the room. I could see nothing and hear nothing for hours and I wondered if this was it. Just as I laid myself down in my cramped cage to rest, heart sunken and mind empty. I heard a noise that perked my ears and raised my hopes. The door thumped shut and the sound of soft footsteps echoed faintly through the house. The darkness lifted like a veil as light poured from the ceiling above me. I squinted and looked up at the wooden chandelier the hovered in the air above my cage. The rough wooden frame lined with hundreds of white candles rose to life, burning bright and spread an ethereal white light throughout the room.
I looked around, taking in the sights and sounds of my prison. Wooden furniture lined the walls covered in shiny silks and colourful bottles. Golden candlesticks and stone figures were placed evenly over table tops and feathered twine dream catchers studded with sparkling jewels hung along the walls. My eyes scanned the room until I noticed a figure standing in the shadows. I watched as she stepped forward into the light, staring down at me with those burning eyes.
