Although I’d spent the whole day so excited that I was being chosen for the cheerleading squad, that feeling completely evaporated as soon as I stepped into the changing room.
The whole squad was there, standing in a semi-circle around the head cheerleader, Olivia, in the middle of the room. Dread started to creep up the back of my neck.
“Hi,” Olivia smiled, tilting her head to the side. She was taller than me, her hair tied back in a tight ponytail and her make-up perfect. She sat down on the wooden bench in the middle of all the lockers, legs crossed and back straight. She demurely clasped her hands over her knee. “You must be Isabella.”
I swallowed and nodded, noticing that one of the cheerleaders had snuck up behind me and closed the door.
“Do you have what it takes to be a cheerleader, Isabella?” Olivia was still smiling sweetly, but there was something insidious behind it.
