It was a slow Saturday night. I had a client event through the early evening and little expectations that I was going to have too much fun for the rest of the day. A good college football game was supposed to kick off at 8:00 on ABC and my future probably involved grabbing a beer or two at the bar with a good book and the game. Yes, an exciting life of a consultant.
I mingled and mixed with people that I need to know but did not need to like or know well for the next two hours. As I was leaving, the score in the first quarter was tied at 10-10 and the drive to my company’s condo promised to be swift. I loosened my tie and rolled down the windows as Tom Petty blared on the radio and the compulsion to sing loudly and poorly came over me.
Then my phone buzzed. I looked and saw it was my friend with benefit’s texting me.
“The kids are in bed, and I have some wine coolers…”
I smiled, and texted her back. “You’re the responsible party for them”
