After moving to Southern California a few years ago, I quickly discovered I had zero friends in the area. Well, “quickly” is a bit of a lie. I spent the first seven months primarily by myself. The amount of human contact I had was shockingly low. I was one more month away from buying a volleyball and going full Tom Hanks. Since I mostly work from home, befriending my coworkers wasn’t an option. I went to the coffee shop down the street a few times but I mean, how does one start conversations there?
“Hey. You seem lonely just like me! Want to share a muffin and chat?”
So yeah, I was in an odd position, but thankfully I got the idea to join an adult sports league. I was debating between softball, kickball and flag football. And while I had the most experience in softball/baseball, I decided to go with flag football because it was the league that was about to begin, and like I said, I desperately needed to get out of the house. You also don’t need much equipment, which was an added bonus.
