Being a witch’s apprentice can be a difficult, thankless job. Unpaid, too. Which is why I feel absolutely no guilt in taking the occasional shortcut to get a task or two out of the way. Only problem is Joel, my creepy counterpart in this gig. He’s always looking for ways to get me in trouble, so I gotta be extra careful to not give him any legitimate reasons to bring to our witch mistress, Lucinda.
Lucinda found me on my family farm outside town. Typical “sold to the crazy magic lady” story, but she was really teaching us in the ways of magic. Not enough to be a threat to her, or anything, but stuff like your general body enhancements, life prolongers, food enrichers, and minor spells. Things that could help us get by when she’s away doing… whatever it is she does.
One day she leaves on an errand. A note says she’ll be gone for quite some time, and wants me to be sure to keep the home clean while she’s away. Joel and I are free to use whatever items we want, apart from those kept in the “restricted case.” That contains all manners of dangerous, rare, and unique ingredients, artifacts, and items that could be irreplaceable. Joel gets to work on his usual failed attempt at a love spell, and I sit on the big, comfy chair and start flipping through Lucinda’s big book of summoning spells.
