I’ve known them for a while now. Me and them became close friends very early on. Black, long hair, brown eyes, always had a neutral, mid-feminine style. They were born a girl, after all.
I had an empty seat next to me for a while in that class, and when my teacher introduced me to our new student, I was delighted to finally have a friend.
Four years later, and we’re closer than ever. Their name is Sky.
I grew close with their family very quickly. Dad always offered me a soda whenever I came over. Mom always greeted me with a warm welcome. Claire, their sister, never came around much since she went off to college. We still get to see her on Christmas, though.
Now, it was finally summer. We both graduated with C average grades and not a singular college acceptance in sight. But that was the least of our worries, because we were finally going on a three day camping trip me and them planned with our other friends a while back. Backpacks, fire stoves, s’mores, hot dogs, and a road trip with the people in this world I care most about.
