The branches whip at your body and face as you rush through the midnight forest. sharp twigs and coarse bark scratch your skin as the terror spurs you on through the darkness, horror gripping your stomach in knots as another howl pierces the night air sending shivers of terror down your spine. The beast is closer now.
Your mistake was to turn and look over your shoulder as you catch a glimpse of the monstrous form behind you in the shadows as it moves with inhuman speed. Your scream dies in your throat as the ground disappears beneath you sending you tumbling into a steep ditch. The heavy impact of the ground drives the air from your body as you tumble down the unseen slope, end over end, till you lay a crumpled heap on the ditch floor in the wet mud with a splat.
