It was a few days after my eighteenth birthday.
Since Aunt Maggie wasn’t able to attend my party,
She was driving down for lunch and shopping with
Me and my mother.
I’m not a big fan of shopping or my Aunt Maggie for
That matter.
Mother insisted on going though.
I’ve had a migraine since I woke up and really just
Wanted to lay down and rest.
I went to the kitchen for a glass of water and saw mother by the sink.
I told her how bad my headache was and that I wasn’t sure if I should go out.
She gave me an aggravated stare then, she pointed
Towards the direction of her bedroom.
She instructed me to go into the medicine cabinet
And take a pill for my headache.
I could tell by her tone of voice, she didn’t believe
I even had a headache.
I slowly walked into my parents bedroom, glass of water in hand.
I opened the cabinet looking for Tylenol or aspirin.
I was stupefied gazing at the prescription bottles that lined the shelves.
No aspirin, no Tylenol.
I had no idea what most of the pills were for.
The only one I recognized was Percocet.
I popped two gulped some water and swallowed hard to get them down.
