With a startled look upon their faces, both Lizzy and Karen pushed away from me.
Fearing I had said something terribly wrong, I began to sputter out an explanation.
“Karen, I just met you and never in my life have I fallen so hard, and so deeply as I have in these last few days.
This was just an impulsive remark meant to impress upon you the effect you have had on me.
So if you don’t mind I will withdraw my outburst and we can start this morning over.” I said.
Karen looked at me and then over to Lizzy, who was sitting back watching me squirm.
After a few moments thought Karen began to speak.
“Frank, I don’t know what to say.
I agree we have only met each other a short time ago and as flattered as I am to hear you ask for my hand, I think we had better take this slow.
Now, I’m not letting you off the hook, rather I an going to make you work for the privilege of asking me the same question again in the future.” Karen told me.
As those words left her lips, I was bombarded with a flood of mixed emotions.
At first, a wave of relief washed over me, she didn’t hate me or run away.
Secondly, a flush of embarrassment crossed my face.
