[As an interesting exercise, I thought I’d rewrite my previous story “Room 33” from the perspective of the other character. So the ‘events’ are true-to-life, but some licence has been applied. Feedback appreciated in comment or PM.]
Every Thursday afternoon after I left college, if I wasn’t working I used to meet up with my best friend Claire to go swimming and then have a couple of drinks at the bar on the town square for a catch up. We’d talk about everything: work, food, pop music, and obviously sometimes relationships. She’d been going out with Tom for a while and they were always arguing. I’d try to take her mind off him. Some weeks we’d go back to mine, get dressed up and go clubbing, even if I had work in the morning. I’d recently started a job at a new hotel that was opening, and one of the perks was that we had a room next to reception and the noisy front door that was always set as out of order so we could crash there if we needed. The guys who worked the night shift were cool with people dropping in at any time so I used to go straight there if I’d been out and then I wouldn’t be late for the early shift. I kept a spare uniform in my locker just in case.
