“So what brings you in here today?” Lauren asked. Rigidly seated on the edge of his own chair, Michael burst out, “I’m just so tense! Having a tough time at work and I’m struggling to mentally turn off in my down time. I feel exhausted and manic at the same time.”
Lauren nodded, bowing her head to scribble some notes, before smiling warmly. “Very understandable. This happens often with successful professionals.” He scoffed, but Lauren continued, “all of this work is on your plate because you have shown your aptitude. Once we work on balancing your mind with happy relaxation, you will return to flying at work. And I Can talk you through a thought experiment.”
“First, you need to sit back in the chair and relax. Put your feet up and close your eyes.” Reluctantly, Michael did as she said. Lauren’s voice grew soft and soothing instantly. “We are going to create a very physical memory and every time you need to relax, you can sit back and revisit this image.” Michael’s eyes flew open. “Like Inception?” Lauren calmly shushed him.
