CHAPTER 4 : Still Tuesday
Madeline James was standing at the kitchen counter wearing her white terrycloth bath robe when Gayla knocked on the back door at 11:30. “Come on in, Gay,” Madeline called. Gayla entered, dressed in jeans and a flower print blouse. “Hi,” Maddie greeted her. “Do you want a cup of tea? I was just fixing myself one.”
“Please,” Gayla replied, sitting down at the kitchen table.
Madeline got out another cup and put a tea bag into it, then poured hot water out of the kettle into both cups. She brought the steaming mugs over to the table, setting one in front of her friend before sitting down across from her with her own. Stirring in a spoonful of honey, Madeline asked, “So, what are you doing today?”
“Oh, I’ve got to go grocery shopping this afternoon, plus I’ve got to go to the dry cleaner to pick up Bill’s suits for tomorrow,” Gayla said, slowly stirring her tea.
