Grey Eyes
Chapter 1: found
The party has been over for a while now. The buzz from the champagne has ended and I feel like the specs of glitter on the ground from pricy ball gowns. I am stilling shining, but I have no where to dance off to. Looking up into the black night sky I shiver as a breeze shakes the end of my turquoise lace dress around my knees. With a sigh I play with the little gold dragonfly necklace that is always around my neck. This always seems to happen to me. I get invited to a party, but my friends bail midway through, leaving me all alone. Mentally cursing my friend Eric that dragged me to this mansion of a house for some fancy party, I make my way down the street trying to find my way out of this gated community to call a cab. And that’s when I first hear his voice: “You need a ride.”
It’s more of a statement than a question and I look over to see him. Tall, broad, dark hair guy in an all black suit…but what really gets me…his eyes…they are grey as a fall rain storm.
“Ummmm yeah…is it that obvious haha” I awkwardly laugh
He gives a soft smile, “Actually, I just wanted an excuse to talk to you. I am fortunate it worked out.”
This time I genuinely laugh as I reply, “Well fortunate for me too…as I really do need a ride home.”
“My car is this way” he says walking back toward the party’s mansion.
“You left your car with the valet didn’t you?” I have to look up at him at him as he is so tall.
His dark chestnut brown hair brushes across his forehead as he replies “yup”
Raising an eyebrow, I ask “So…what were you doing so far away from it?”
He shrugs his shoulder “I just needed some fresh air. No harm in that.”
“None.” I reply and we walk in a comfortable silence back to the valet.
His car is surprisingly unassuming. It’s not a flashy sports car import or anything of the such. It’s just a simple black mustang, no racing stripes. I hop into the passenger seat and relish in the smooth gray leather seats. Mystery guy starts the car and it is then I find out the reason for the unassuming appearance: the engine sounds like a beast…no scratch that a Porsche 911. I can’t help but laugh to myself.
“What’s so funny” He asks smirking
“You upgraded the engine” I reply in the only way I know how
“How did you know?” He questions me.
“It sounds like a Porsche” I reply blandly.
“That’s cause it is…it’s a Porsche 9..” He starts to say before I finish:
“911…I know I can tell by the purr”
“Oh really little kitty…any other cats purring” and he throws in a wink for added flirtation.
“Oh god! You’re so cheesy” I say turning away from him so he won’t see my blush.
“It’s my second best feature” He says with a wink again.
“What’s your first?” I ask already knowing where this set up is leaving.
“My honesty” he says with a grin on his face.
I try to hold a straight face but I can as I burst into laughter. “Are you single” I blurt out.
Suddenly the light mood in the car darkens. He turns to look at me now that we’re are sitting at a red light. The red glare is blinding inside the car and his grey eye are analyzing me. Almost darkening like a small storm beneath their surface.
“What?” he whispers.
“I asked if you were single…It would be a terrible waste of my time to flirt with someone that is taken.” I reply bluntly
“Oh trust me, it would not be a waste of your time” He quickly replies.
“Hmmm really now” It’s my turn to act flirty.
“Yes” he replies gunning the car forward as the light turns green.
“You know, you never asked were you were going to drop me off” I point out to him.
“I figured you were going to tell me if I was going the wrong way” he says sounding concerned that he might have messed up.
“mmm you are going the right way. At the next light take a right.” I inform him.
“But that leads to Burtrant Cliff look out” he says sounding confused.
“Exactly” I say smirking.
He is silent for the rest of the ride as he pulls over to the lookout which gives a fantastic view of the city with every little light twinkling.
I take my eyes of the view to see his gray eyes eyeing me hungrily again.
“You know what I love about this view.” I say nervously as I’ve never told anyone my thoughts on the topic.
“Hmm”
“It’s a reminder…a reminder that we are never alone in the world” I reply while unbuckling my seatbelt.
“I think it’s more of a reminder how isolated we are” he replies solemnly turning to look out the window.
I rest a hand on his shoulder and reply “I am here”
He turns to look at me with such an adorable confused expression. I can’t keep my urges to myself anymore. And I lean in to kiss his beautiful full soft lips.
Slowly pulling away I whisper “I’ve wanted to do that since I’ve laid eyes on you.”
He gasps and pulls me onto his lap, deeply kissing my lips and rubbing his large hands across my back. “And I’ve wanted to more than just kiss your lips since I’ve laid eyes on you.”
“Well go on” I breathlessly reply, “I am your’s for the night.”
