The next morning the staff assembled in the dining hall where we were told what our assignments were for the week. There were two separate “camps”, one for older kids and one for younger kids, and the rest of staff would be setting up activities, working in the kitchen, or doing other odds and ends around the camp for a week.
I walked in and sat next to Mark, he smiled but went right back to talking with some of the other staff about something that I was uninterested in. When our camp director got in to give us our assignments I was told I would be mostly working activities for the week. Mark zoned out, he had been hired as the head lifeguard so he knew his schedule would be mostly at the beach or in the canoes. His cabin mate though was told he would be working in the older kids camp for the week, so Mark would have his cabin all to himself. When Mark heard this he perked up and looked at me, giving me a devilish smirk but didn’t say a thing.
