I grew up in a mid size town that exists in a bubble. People rarely leave, so the same kids you started Kindergarten with, are the same kids you walk with 13 years later with very few exceptions. Additionally, the population is largely hispanic, so the very few white kids who are around tend to all be aquaintences at worst. I started K with this girl, we’ll call her Autumn, who was very smart, but very quiet and reserved. The the two of us, along with maybe 3 others, were the “smart kids” in class, so we were always in the same groups for various activities. This went on all the way through high school, although we hardly talked most of those years. That’s not to say we weren’t familiar with eachother. I always thought she was very fit and attractive, but I was also a full blown jock by the time high school was going, and ran in the circle of typical teenage idiots, while she was very involved in dance and choreography off campus, and had a very small circle of friends. Those years came and went, and I ended up leaving the area based upon some modest athletic talent, and eventually lived out of the country for about 6 years. Those were the days before Myspace, and eventually Facebook, so I did not do much to keep tabs on people.
