Summer is finally in its downswing. I watch the sun drift closer to the horizon, its brilliant rays streaking across what remains bare in the sky. Clouds have rolled in, seemingly ablaze while the sun makes its retreat. There are faint rays peeking through the roiling darkness above, where the tumultuous blanket gives in to the radiance above. Slowly, I can begin take in the change in the air around me, the smell changing to petrichor as the font above begins to rend open. As the essence of the sky falls upon my form, my senses dance and sway with every slow blink and deep breath. The rain is cool to my skin, and I raise my arms and let those cool kisses embrace me. Each evaporating droplet a subtle sigh. This absolute calm a blissful sensation, an unbeknownst bastion of serenity afore the onslaught to come.

Someone asked me to write something a little special for them. Might be too much for some. You’ve been warned.
Slowly…you awaken to total darkness. Unsure if your eyes are truly open, until a candle slowly flickers to light. One at first, then another, and another, and another. Each lit by a silhouetted figure slowly walking around the room, but you can barely see with the fog of sleep still heavy on your eyelids. The room is not small, but hardly large from what you can tell, and no door is in sight. You are standing somehow, still a little asleep, but you can feel warm stone beneath your feet. You begin to realize that your wrists are cold and achy, but you cannot move them. You manage to look up and see shackles on them, not painfully tight but you are certainly not going anywhere. Not soon anyway…
You recall your last vivid memory, a night of passion with your lover, but you cannot remember their face. Only you saying, “I wish you could just take me away…”, and a voice responding with “But for what?” You slowly remember yourself saying “Anything…” as you fade into darkness once more.
