This happened earlier this year before all the COVID stuff started ruining everyone’s social lives.
I met this couple when I was out at a bar back in Jan/Feb. It wasn’t a bar I frequented at all, I was only there because I was out celebrating a friends 30th birthday. They weren’t part of the party though. They were just sitting at the bar having drinks. While I was standing at the bar the husband, lets call him “J,” asked me what we were celebrating because the bar is never this busy. I told him why we were there and then we continued to do small talk. Eventually his wife, we’ll call her “C,” chimed in on the conversation too. She asked if I was dating or going home with any of the pretty girls that were with the group. I told her that I was single, and that it was still too early to know. She said that was too bad but she was sure that my situation would change before the end of the night. I thanked her and bought the three of us a round of shots before I went back to the party. After some time had passed I needed another drink and went back to the bar where J and C were still sitting. We got to talking again, and this time I decided to sit at the bar next to them and just continue the conversation. That’s when C asked me if my situation had changed yet, and I told her no, that I was just happy to have fun with my friend for his bday tonight. It was around midnight at this time and he (along with most of the party) were pretty trashed by now. They were all talking about going back to the house and continuing to drink there. When C heard this I saw her whisper something to J. Then he smiled and asked if I wanted to join them for another drink before I left. I said sure, since I was still pretty sober and I was driving myself anyway.
