It had been several years since Mike had left the military, but he always spoke so highly of one friendship he had made during his time state-side and deployed. James, or Jim for short, was a career-long military dude who met Mike in Texas back in 2007. Mike and Jim had created a brotherly bond during those years stationed together in Texas, even roommates for most of that time. Mike now lives in Colorado with his wife Ali, and it had been a few years since Mike and Jim had seen each other since Jim continued his career and moved around with the military.
One evening Mike’s phone rang and it was JIM! After catching up for an hour or so, Jim told Mike that he would be speaking at a military conference in Denver in about a month and he wanted to take the opportunity to come visit for a couple days. Mike, ecstatic, hung up the phone and told Ali that his brother from the military was coming to stay for a few days and that she would finally be able to meet Jim and put a face to all the stories that Mike had told her over the years. That evening laying in bed, Ali pulled up Facebook and found Jim’s profile…. “Is this him? He looks good. “Yea we both used to be big into bodybuilding remember? I fell off, he didn’t and kept himself in shape, and always spent an hour or two in the gym each day.” Ali’s mind started to wander as she snapped her phone closed and went to sleep.
