They offered her a “real” office again.
Not that Rory’s current cubicle was intangible. Just that it was exactly that: a cubicle. Her bosses passively reminded her that, as lead developer, she could have any available location in the building she wanted. The corner office on the east side of the building just opened up and had a luxurious view of the river that ran through downtown. It came with a solid oak desk, a personal printer, and, most importantly to her, a lock on the door.
She had very seriously considered the offer last time a corner office opened up. But that was five years ago. She was new to the company and wanted a kind of total immersion. At the time, she told herself she would move into the corner office in a few months, once she had a feel for things.
However, not a week later, they hired a new cybersecurity lead, Jax, and he quickly took over that corner office. The one that would have been hers. The one that was positioned perfectly out of view of all other cubicles except her current one. The one that gave it’s occupant clear view of her desk.
