I love being a dog walker. I do individual visits, and about 1/4 of the time my clients are home. I have keys to their houses and just let myself in and out. They are scheduled times so the client always knows when I’ll be arriving.
After I finish my 9:30 appointment I check my social media. I see this next client, Abby, post something at home. Being introverted, it’s actually nice to know they’re home rather than be startled sometimes. It’s also nice for the client to have a heads up, so i text her.
“Hey, i’m omw.”
“Ok!”
I use my key and expect to say hi knowing she’s home. I walk in and rather than their dog running to greet me I’m met with an empty house. Odd. Maybe she left in the 5-10 minutes it took me to drive over? I call for the dog, still no sign of him. More odd. Check all his favorite spots. Offer a treat. Still nothing.
Abby’s married to a well known dr in the city. This is a big house, but open. My voice carries. I head upstairs. Call again. Nothing. I’m now steps from their bedroom. Then I see the dog come out into the hall from Abby’s master bedroom to greet me. There you are.
