I woke up the next morning to Jack tapping my shoulder.
Whenever Jack spent the night at my place, he always left the next morning without a wait. He had to go to work rather early, so he didn’t bother saying goodbye half of the time. So when I slowly opened my eyes to him waking me up, I flinched back, thinking about the previous night.
Jack looked at me with concern. “Aaron, is everything alright?”
I stared at him, trying to read his expression. His words sounded genuine, as if he really was concerned for me, and his face matched the same look. Was there really a different reason for him waking me up?
I breathed a sigh of relief. Looks like I had done a good job covering up the evidence from last night. I turned back to face Jack.
“Oh no, everything’s alright. I just got startled,” I responded, keeping the lie going.
“Makes sense. I don’t usually stick around in the morning, do I?” Jack laughed. “Anyway, I need a favor from you.”
I nodded my head. I didn’t have any plans today, so it couldn’t hurt to spend some time helping him out.
