I sat on the couch, nervously tracking her Uber trip to my house. 10 minutes away. I couldn’t believe this was happening. She and I have worked together for the past year, but I never thought something would happen between us. Who knew if anything would happen anyway.
Over the past year, I have fallen nothing short of being agonizingly in love with her. Her smile was infectious and making her laugh was the highlight of my day. I always found excuses to talk to her and it took all of my willpower not to jump out of my seat and kiss her whenever we were alone. And now, she was coming over to my house. 5 minutes away.
I look around the room, doing a last-minute check to make sure everything was perfect. There was nothing left to do but wait. Her favorite kind of wine, Tuscan red, was ready to go and there was nothing left to clean or put away. I try to take my mind off of my nervous excitement and slip into a daydream… I open the door and see her standing, smiling at me. She walks in without me saying anything as if she knows everything that is going on in my head. I lean in to take off her coat, our cheeks nearly brushing. She turns to me, we lock eyes, and at that moment I know I’m about to get the kiss I have been aching for over the past year. My lips graze hers… then the doorbell rings, jolting me back to reality. She’s here.
