One of my colleagues at the campus library needed to trade a few shifts with me so she could go home for the long weekend to attend her brother’s wedding. That meant I’d have a day off on Monday, though I’d end up working the next Sunday. Even so, it would be good to have a weekday off once in a while.
Andrew agreed, and arranged for us to take the same Monday off from work so that we could go canoeing on a nearby local river and actually enjoy ourselves. We thought that because it was a Monday, there would be far fewer people on the river, allowing us to focus on the scenery rather than dodging other canoes.
We woke up to rain on that Monday morning. Thankfully, there was no thunder, storms or lightning. We expected rain, but it was still a little upsetting.
“Keep in mind,” my big brother reminded me as he squeezed me beneath the sheet that covered us, “rain is wet, and so is the river.” We’re going to get wet anyway, so we might as well go if the forecast hasn’t changed to include storms.
