Another boring day at the office. Paperwork, meetings about nothing, emails, the boring boring works. I was the last one in the office and was busy clearing everything out before heading to the elevator. I let out a yawn and hit the button. After a moment the metallic doors slid open with a little ding. I stepped into the gray box and hit the button to the parking deck.
I was ready to get home and prepare for my long weekend. The elevator began making a slow descent to the next floor. Then it dinged open again.
“Oh hi Maria.” I said. Maria was my old colleague in sales. A short buxom lady with cute brown hair and thick black frame glasses. She was wearing nice a gray suit and a black pleated skirt.
“Oh uh, h..hey Jake. th…thought everyone was g…gone.” she was really stuttering hard. As she entered the elevator
“I had a last-minute report due. You alright? You’re really red.”
“I’m f…fine.”
I shrugged my shoulders.
The elevator began making it’s slow fall to the basement again. The silence was thick. Maria and I weren’t strangers, but we never really talked about anything.
