She walked up to the house, and they (singular) were outside waiting for her, finishing up the last drags of a cigarette.
“Hello gorgeous. I’m glad to see you.” They said. A warm smile spread across their face.
“Hey. I’m glad to see you too. I’ve been really looking forward to this all week.” She replied.
They stubbed out the shouldering remains of their cigarette on the bottom of their shoe, threw it away, and escorted her into the house.
Upon entry, they were greeted with a cacophony of meows from the cats, each named for a different cheese. One brushed against her leg as she strode down the entry hall, and she bent down to scratch the cat behind its ear.
She set down her belongings in the living room and continued to pet the cat, while D snuck off to the bathroom to brush their teeth in an attempt to expunge the taste of smoke from their mouth.
They returned to the living room.
“How was your day, love?” They asked.
“Eh, it was so-so, but it’s much better now that I’m here with you.” She smirked.
