As he looked around, Jayce noticed that this wasnt the normal path he had been hiking for the past several years. Being single gave him a lot of free time and he often spent it in nature. His favorite route, the one he was supposed to be on, usually only took two hours. He wasn’t sure when he had spaced off, nor what time it was currently, as he preferred to not carry his watch or phone, opting instead for a radio tuned to the local ranger’s frequency.
He took out his map and tried to find his location. He noticed a clearing up ahead with the sound of a small waterfall. That wasn’t on his map. There were some clearings, and some waterfalls, but the closest combination were several hundred yards from each other.
He decided to check out the clearing. He needed to refill his water if he was going to have enough to make it back from wherever he had wandered off to.
The closer he got to the clearing, the darker the sky became. Not in an ominous way, just darker, as if it were becoming night at a very fast rate. However, there was a glow coming from the clearing, and Jayce started to hear soft singing as he approached the entrance to the glade.
