Today is my day off, tired from early mornings, a week of work and a double gym session. I recently joined the local sports club to learn a new outdoor sport, tennis in this case.
The coach has encouraged our group to do extra practice at the weekend to improve our game. He randomly matched us up with someone we didn’t get to play with at the training session. He wanted us to take advantage of the free courts on a weekend morning and put into the practice the skills he’d taught us.
I’d been matched with Jen, a smiley girl, she was tall and slim, with long flowing brunette hair, but oddly nervous. She was dressed in typical tennis attire, white top, short pleated skirt, and what looked like brand new, gleaming trainers.
We said our hellos amongst some other, almost awkward small talk, as most would with a stranger. We tossed a coin to see who would serve first, I won, and chose to let Jen serve.
