I’d just got out of a six-month relationship with a high-maintenance girl in America. Her friend Liz went to drama school in London, which meant she was the kind of camera-hot attractive that gets you into drama school.
I was out with a bunch of mates and Liz was there. We hadn’t really spent time together before, but I was always eager to try sleeping with someone I felt chemistry with, because sex is fun and a great way to get to know somebody. So we ended up having an intense heart-to-heart about her desire to move to LA and her conflicts about where she might end up next. I took her hand, palm up, and sat next to her, pointing out different lines and showing them to her in the dim pub light.
“See that long one?” I said.
“Yeah,” she whispered. Our heads were touching; I could feel her body pressing closer to mine as she waited to learn the secrets of her future.
