I dragged my small suitcase into the foyer and I hugged my old friend. I was glad to finally be on the ground after a long day and an especially uncomfortable flight. It was late and I was tired. I was in town for a conference and my college buddy Alex had invited me to stay with him and his wife at their place. They lived just a couple states away from me but we rarely visited each other. It was good to see him.
Alex replied, “No problem Rob, we’re happy to have you. Our house is your house. Just excuse the mess”.
I looked around the living area. Alex and Michelle’s house was cozy in a average, suburban sort of way. I glanced to see the mess Alex mentioned – I could smell drywall and see some boards lying on the hallway floor.
“We’ve been wanting to really make something of that room for years, its bad timing that we temporarily don’t have a guestroom just as you’re in town!”
Michelle smiled at me and chimed in.
“The room plans are amazing. It will look so cool next time you visit in another 5 years.”
